Fixed communication services revenue in Thailand is expected to grow, albeit at a marginal compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of of 2.6% from $2.2 billion in 2024 to $2.5 billion in 2029 mainly supported by the fixed broadband service segment, forecasts GlobalData, a leading data and analytics company.

GlobalData’s research reveals that fixed voice service revenue will decline at a CAGR of 8.6% over the 2024-2029 period, in line with the continued drop in circuit-switched and packet switched (VoIP) subscriptions as users shift from traditional fixed voice services to mobile and OTT/app-based communications.

Fixed broadband service revenue, on the other hand, is expected to increase at a CAGR of 3.2% over the forecast period, mainly due to growth in fiber-optic (FTTH/B) and fixed wireless access subscriptions.

Sarwat Zeeshan, Telecom Analyst at GlobalData, comments: “Fiber lines accounted for about 89.2% share of total fixed broadband lines in 2024 and will remain the leading broadband technology through to 2029. This growth will be driven by the rising demand for high-speed broadband connectivity, improving FTTH networks in urban areas, government and operators’ focus on expanding fiber network coverage and promoting the adoption of FTTH/B services across the country.

Advanced Info Service Public Co Ltd (AIS) will lead the fixed broadband market by subscriber share through 2029, followed by True Corp Public Co Ltd.

Zeeshan concludes: “AIS’s leading position in the fixed broadband segment is due to its strong presence in the FTTH/B service segment, its strategic merger with Triple T Broadband (3BB), which made it the largest fixed broadband provider in Thailand, and its THB10 billion ($289 million) investment to expand services in underserved areas.”
