The construction industry in Austria is expected to grow in real terms by 1.7% in 2026, supported by a rise in housing loans, coupled with investment in energy projects. According to Eurostat, the gross fixed capital formation in the building and construction sector grew by 1.7% year-on-year (YoY) in the first nine months of 2025, preceded by an annual decline of 9.3% in 2024. According to the Oesterreichische Nationalbank (OeNB), new loans for housing purposes grew by 48% YoY in the first nine months of 2025.
Over the remainder of the forecast period, the construction industry is expected to register an annual average growth rate of 3.1% between 2027 and 2030, supported by public and private investments to develop the transport and renewable energy infrastructure, coupled with the government’s aim to produce 100% of the country’s electricity through renewable energy sources by 2030, and achieve full climate neutrality by 2040. Thus, to achieve this target in October 2025, the government announced its plan to overhaul its entire energy law system by the end of 2026, as key rules have become outdated.
