Growth in Cameroon’s construction industry slowed in Q4 2025, following post-election (Presidential elections in October 2025) unrest, budget cuts and energy shortages, with construction value add recording real growth of 1.7%, following average growth of 5.9% in the preceding three quarters. Despite the slowdown, the industry recorded growth of 4.8% in 2025, following growth of 4.3% in 2024. GlobalData estimates the construction industry in Cameroon to grow by 5.4% in real terms in 2026, supported by investments in transport infrastructure and energy and utilities projects, coupled with investments announced in the latest 2026 budget. In December 2025, the government approved the 2026 Budget, which is estimated at CFA8.8 trillion ($14.7 billion), representing a 14% increase compared to 2025. Key allocations outlined in the budget include CFA651.9 billion ($1.1 billion) for the public works sector, CFA595.2 billion ($990.8 million) for the secondary education segment, CFA425.7 billion ($708.7 million) for the water and energy portfolio, and CFA389.3 billion ($648.1 million) for the public health sector. Additional priority funding provisions comprise CFA334.3 billion ($556.2 million) for the basic education subsector, CFA168.4 billion ($280.3 million) for the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, CFA34.3 billion ($57.1 million) for the transport sector, and CFA12.2 billion ($20.3 million) for Mines, Industry & Technological Development.
Over the remaining forecast horizon, Cameroon’s construction industry is projected to record average annual real growth of 5.7% between 2027 and 2030, underpinned by sustained capital deployment across mining, oil and gas, and wider energy infrastructure programs, alongside continued public investment delivered through the Stratégie Nationale de Développement 2020–30 (National Development Strategy, SND30). Under SND30, the government’s strategic objective is to position Cameroon as an emerging economy by 2035, with priorities centered on structural economic transformation, accelerated industrialization, and technology-led modernization. The program also targets measurable social outcomes by improving living standards while simultaneously reducing poverty and expanding access to essential basic social services. Cameroonian government presented its nearly CFA2.3 trillion ($4 billion) national Water Compact under the World Bank’s Water Forward initiative in July 2026, outlining investments to strengthen water security.
