Key Highlights
In September 2025, Visa launched a digital payments program in Hungary for SMEs. The initiative targets participating merchants who have not accepted online card payments in the past 12 months or who are newly entering the ecommerce market. The program offers to accept online card payments without any fees for a period of six months. In addition, it provides access to digital tools, such as invoicing, online store creation, inventory management, courier logistics, and digital advertising, along with discounts and educational resources. This three-year project is implemented in partnership with local ecommerce service providers, including Shoprenter, Árukereső, DPD, Boxy, and Számlázz.hu, and aims to support small businesses adapt to digital commerce.
In July 2025, the European payments provider Mollie launched its services in Hungary, allowing businesses to use a single platform to manage different types of payments. The platform enables Hungarian merchants to accept multiple payment methods, including digital wallets (such as Apple Pay and Google Pay), along with bank transfers, cards, PayPal, and Pay by Bank. Mollie also plans to add Klarna, a buy now pay later (BNPL) service. In addition, the solution works with popular online store systems, such as Shopify, WooCommerce, Magento, Shopware, and PrestaShop. This helps businesses expand online sales and reach customers across borders more efficiently.
In June 2024, the digital-only bank BinX launched in Hungary. It is licensed by the country’s central bank, Magyar Nemzeti Bank (MNB), and offers digital banking services, such as online account opening, payments, transfers, and expense management through its mobile and web apps. BinX also provides the Mastercard-branded BinX Business Ready virtual debit card for transactions and purchases which allows users to pay online and in-store. The card comes with no monthly account-management fees.
