Kuwait Projects, H1 2022 – Outlook of Major Projects in Kuwait – MEED Insights

Pages: 86 Published: March 01, 2022 Report Code: GDMD047CON

Kuwait has more than $204bn in projects planned or underway and is the MENA region’s sixth-biggest projects market after Saudi Arabia, UAE, Egypt, Iraq, and Iran. It is one of the Middle East’s most creditworthy economies, presenting many opportunities for local, regional, and international businesses. It is a high-income and asset-rich economy with oil reserves for about 100 years and substantial gas assets. However, the largest proportion of the projects remains tied up in the study or design phase.

The frequent standoffs between the cabinet and parliament have meant that many potentially useful economic reforms and major projects have not moved forward, as the government has been unable to secure approval from MPs for its plans. Kuwait was one of the smallest markets in the GCC region in 2021 and is currently the third largest in the region after Saudi Arabia and the UAE. Among the project sectors, currently, the largest one in terms of work under execution is construction, followed by transport.

Key Sectors in Kuwait Projects Outlook

The key sectors among the Kuwait projects are chemical, construction, gas, industrial, oil, power, transport, and water. The construction and transport sectors are far larger than other sectors in Kuwait.
