Following real growth of 14% and 15.9% in 2024 and 2025 respectively, GlobalData expects the construction industry in Mongolia to grow by 6.1% in real terms in 2026, supported by investments in the development of a rising foreign direct investment (FDI) in the construction sector and an increase in construction employment, coupled with investment in real estate projects. According to the Mongolian National Statistics Office (NSO), FDI in the construction industry grew by 1.6% in 2025, while it grew sharply by 95.9% for real estate activities, over the same period, reflecting an improvement in investor confidence in the real estate sector.
Over the remainder of the forecast period, GlobalData expects the Mongolian construction industry to record an annual average growth of 3.2% between 2027 and 2030, supported by investments in transportation, electricity, and infrastructure sectors. To support infrastructure, the government announced in early April 2026 a tender for the Ring Road project valued at MNT3.2 trillion ($831.4 million). The scope covers the delivery of a 24.8km six-lane road, supported by 9km of bridges and 2km of tunnel works within Central Ulaanbaatar city, with completion targeted for 2028. In addition, construction activities commenced in March 2026 on the Tuul highway project, which involves a 32km road corridor running from Bayanzurkh Bureau to the Safety Circle, alongside a 12.8km bridge section and 369m of tunnels distributed across seven locations. The project is being implemented at an estimated cost of MNT2.3 trillion ($597.6 million) and is scheduled for completion by 2027.
