GlobalData estimates the construction industry in Mozambique to expand by 3.7% in real terms in 2026, supported by investments in infrastructure, and energy and utilities projects, coupled with an increase in foreign direct investment (FDI) in the country. According to the Instituto Nacional de Estatística (INE), the construction industry value-add rose by 7.3% year on year (YoY) in Q4 2025, preceded by YoY decline of 0.3% in Q3 and 2.2% in Q2 2025. Furthermore, in March 2026, Mozambique’s private sector businesses experienced growth in output and order books, as indicated by the Standard Bank Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI), which rose to 50.2 in March 2026, up from 50 in January 2026. This increase reflects improvement in economic activity driven by strengthening new orders and sales, supporting construction output growth and investment confidence.
Over the remainder of the forecast period, the construction industry in Mozambique is expected to register an annual average growth of 4.7% in real terms from 2027 to 2030, supported by public and private sector investments for the development of transport infrastructure, energy, and telecommunication projects. Additionally, the development of three major natural gas exploration projects is expected to bolster the construction industry over the forecast period. Notably, Mozambique has one of the largest gas reserves in the world which is Rovuma Basin located off the coast of Cabo Delgado. The Rovuma liquefied natural gas (LNG) Development project involves the construction of an onshore LNG plant in the Afungi peninsula, Cabo Delgado with a production capacity of 18 million tonnes per year, with the project set to be completed by 2029.
