Thailand Renewable Energy Strategies
Thailand Integrated Energy Blueprint (TIEB): In 2014, the Ministry of Energy developed the Thailand Integrated Energy Blueprint (TIEB). It was implemented to drive energy diversification in the country. On 24 January 2019, Thailand’s National Energy Policy Council (NEPC) approved the country’s Power Development Plan for 2018-2037 (PDP 2018). The plan reduces the proportion of power generated by the state-run Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) from 35% in the previous version to 24%.
National Energy Plan (NEP): The National Energy Plan (NEP) is a strategy prepared by the Thai government that envisions the future of Thailand’s energy system through the 2040s. In December 2023, the framework of NEP was approved by the National Energy Policy Committee. The NEP is to be implemented from 2023 to 2037 and emphasize greenhouse gas reduction, energy security, and alternative energy. as a policy framework to guide related agencies towards a transformational change to clean energy systems and plan to achieve the goal of becoming a carbon-neutral country by 2050.
