Ford Recalls SUVs in US on Safety Concerns

  • Ford Motor Co. announced a recall of its SUVs on September 1, 2022, due to complaints of 25 instances of fires involving 198,000 SUVs in the US
  • Ford claimed that the return was unrelated to safety recalls that were authorized in July 2022
  • Ford will start informing owners on September 12, 2022

Ford Motor Co. announced on September 1, 2022, that it is recalling 198,000 SUVs in the US to replace the motor assembly following 25 incidents of fires. The Ford Expedition and Lincoln Navigator models of 2015–2017 are included in the recall. Ford reported receiving three reports of fires connected to structural property damage and one incident of a minor injury. Ford will start informing owners of the vehicles about the replacement of the motor assembly on September 12, 2022.

Ford stated that the callback was not related to safety recalls in July 2022 involving the more recent 2021 Expedition and Navigator cars due to a potential engine compartment fire risk coming from the battery connection box. According to field data, the latest recall’s problem mainly affects vehicles with higher mileage and time in service.

The right-rear axle half shafts on 1,175 electric Mustang Mach-E vehicles from the 2022 model year are being recalled because they could break due to possible incorrect build. Dealers will inspect the right-rear half shafts and change them as necessary.

According to GlobalData, Ford’s US sales grew by double digits from a year ago in August 2022, but were down approximately 4% over that in July 2022 as the company and the auto industry continue to deal with supply chain challenges.

Ford said that there had been no reports of owner failures, but in August 2022, it was discovered that two of the cars at its assembly plant in Mexico had fractured rear right half shafts. In recent times, Ford has been in the news, and according to GlobalData’s sentiment research, Ford has been portrayed favorably.

This is because its net sentiment study indicated an improvement in the third quarter of 2022 over that in the second quarter of the year.

Ford conducted 52 distinct recall campaigns in 2022 involving about 7.4 million vehicles, more than any other automaker in the US.
