Number of Vehicles Sold by Mercedes-Benz Group

The Mercedes-Benz Group AG (former Daimler AG) is one of the world's leading global suppliers of premium and luxury cars and vans. The group segregates its business under segments: Mercedes-Benz Cars, Mercedes-Benz Vans, and Mercedes-Benz Mobility (formerly Daimler Mobility). The Mercedes-Benz Mobility AG offers financing, leasing, car subscription and car rental, fleet management, digital services for charging and payment, insurance brokerage, as well as innovative mobility services. During FY2021, Daimler AG decided to spin off and hive down large parts of the former Daimler Trucks & Buses segment, including the related financial services business and also the Mercedes-Benz Mobility segment.

The Mercedes-Benz Group sold a total of 2.75 million vehicles in FY2021 compared to 2.84 million vehicles in FY2020 down by nearly 3% YoY. Out of the 2.75 million vehicles sold, 2.33 million vehicles were cars and vans. The sales were boosted by the recovery of key markets from the COVID-related effects of the previous year on one hand and were also impacted by worsening supply bottlenecks for semiconductors.

Mercedes-Benz Cars sold 1,943,900 units in FY2021, down from 2,087,200 units in FY2020. It still remains number one in the premium segment in Germany and other European markets, as well as in South Korea and Japan, measured by the number of new vehicle registrations. With 662,300 vehicles sold in Europe, Mercedes-Benz Cars registered 16% fewer units than in FY2020 YoY. This included a sales decline in Germany (-23%), the United Kingdom (-21%), and Spain (-21%). In China, the single largest market for Mercedes-Benz Cars, unit sales of 734,700 vehicles were achieved. At 290,600 vehicles, its unit sales in North America surpassed the FY2020 level. In the main market, the United States, its sales rose by 1% in FY2021 to 251,400 units.

Mercedes-Benz Vans finished the FY2021 with unit sales of 386,200 vehicles worldwide compared to 374,700 units in FY2020. In spite of a scarcity of semiconductors, unit sales in FY2021 were nearly 3% higher than in FY2020. It sold 98,200 vehicles in Germany during FY2021, and 55,300 units in North America. It achieved a new record of 48,300 vehicles in the United States and also in China 38,500  vehicles this fiscal. In Latin America, its sales rose by 41% to 16,900 units.

Note: The unit sales figure of the group of 2.75 million(in FY2021) includes sales from both continued and discontinued operations.
