GHG emissions are generally classified into Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions. Scope 1 includes direct GHG emissions from sources that are owned or controlled by the company such as emissions associated with fuel combustion in boilers, furnaces, and vehicles. Scope 2 encompasses indirect GHG emissions associated with purchased electricity, heat, steam, or cooling. Scope 3 involves indirect GHG emissions in the company’s upstream and downstream activities, such as the purchase of goods and services, waste generated in operations, upstream transport, and distribution.

In 2021, Scope 3 emissions form the major portion of Campbell’s total GHG emissions, accounting for around 6.26 million tonnes of CO2 equivalent (90%) of total GHG emissions. In 2021, the company's Scope 2 emissions (0.22 million tonnes CO2 equivalent) decreased by 12%, and Scope 1 emissions (0.47 million tonnes CO2 equivalent) decreased by 1% annually.

Campbell commits to a 42% reduction of absolute Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions by 2030 (from the 2020 baseline) and a 25% reduction of absolute Scope 3 GHG emissions from purchased goods and services and upstream transportation and distribution within the same time frame.
