Scope 1 includes direct GHG emissions from sources that are owned or controlled by the company such as emissions associated with fuel combustion in boilers, furnaces, and vehicles. Scope 2 encompasses indirect GHG emissions associated with purchased electricity, heat, steam, or cooling. Scope 3 involves indirect GHG emissions in the company’s upstream and downstream activities, such as the purchase of goods and services, waste generated in operations, upstream transport, and distribution.

In 2020, Kraft Heinz’s Scope 1 emissions were 592 thousand tonnes of CO2 equivalents, decreased by 0.6% on a year-on-year basis. Scope 2 emissions (location-based) accounted for 698 thousand tonnes of CO2 equivalents, decreased by 2.3% on a year-on-year basis. Scope 3 emissions were reported at 25,027 thousand tonnes of CO2 equivalents, increased by 7.5% on a year-on-year basis in 2020.

In 2021, Kraft Heinz reaffirmed its commitment to support international efforts to reduce the ongoing threat of climate change by announcing its ambition to achieve net zero greenhouse gas emissions across its operating footprint (Scope 1 and Scope 2) and whole global supply chain (Scope 3) by 2050.
