By the end of 2021, Facebook had a global workforce of 71,970 employees, which is nearly 23% year-over-year growth in the number of full-time employees. As of December 31, 2021, Meta’s Research and Development division witnessed a 30% year-over-year growth in employee headcount, whereas the Marketing and Sales division reported a 9% year-over-year increase in employee headcount. Similarly, the General and Administrative division reported a 25% year-over-year growth in the number of employees.
Meta’s global workforce strength of 71,970 employees work either remotely or from offices located in more than 80 cities across North America, Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Asia Pacific, and Latin America, and 18 data centers located across the world.
The year 2017, witnessed the most hiring of employees, with nearly 8,000 new employees hired in the year 2017 and an annual employment growth rate of 47%.
Workforce Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
As of June 30, 2021, Meta reported its global workforce had nearly 36.7% female employees and 63.3% male employees. As for its workforce diversity in the US, Meta reported the following ethnic diversity: 45.7% Asian, 39.1% White, 6.5% Hispanic, 4.4% Black, 3.9% two or more ethnicities, and 0.4% additional groups (including American Indian or Alaska Native and Native Hawaiian or Other Pacific Islander).
