Corruption Perception Index of Indonesia (2010 - 2020)

Corruption Perception Index of Indonesia  

Indonesia scored 37 points out of 100 on the 2020 corruption perceptions index, a decrease of three points when compared with the previous year (2019). Between 2010-2020, the corruption perception index of Indonesia increased by nine points. 

Within the corruption perception index of 2020, Indonesia performs below average when compared to other countries. Indonesia's index score has increased from a low of 28 in 2010 to a high of 37 in 2020.  

Indonesia’s business environment suffers from widespread corruption. There are two key areas in the public sector in which corruption in Indonesia can be found. These are the justice and civil service sectors. Indonesia's Criminal Code outlaws embezzlement and gifts to public officials, while the Law on Eradication of Criminal Acts of Corruption makes key corruption offenses such as active and passive bribery, abuse of authority, and extortion illegal. 

Outlook on Corruption Perception Index 

The Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI), is an index that ranks countries around the world, based on how corrupt their public sectors are perceived to be. Results are presented on a scale of 0 to 100, with 0 being highly corrupt and 100 representing extremely clean. 

Denmark, New Zealand, Finland, Singapore, Sweden, and Switzerland are among the major countries with the lowest levels of corruption worldwide. Denmark and New Zealand had the highest score of 88 out of 100, followed by Finland, Switzerland, Singapore, and Sweden with a score of 85 in 2020. Countries with the highest levels of corruption worldwide include Somalia and South Sudan with a score of 12 out of 100 in 2020. 

Determinants of Corruption Perception Index 

Political and Economic Environment:  

The political and economic environment has a major impact on the corruption phenomena and is also affected by the monetary policy. 

Level of GDP: 

It has been demonstrated that nations with relatively low GDP per capita levels typically have higher levels of corruption. Other than that, early developing nations often have lower corruption ratings. 

Country Size: 

Due to the difficulty in policing public officials in dispersed places, countries with a low population density and a large geographic areas are more susceptible to corruption.
