he novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19), caused by the 2019 novel coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2), is a contagious respiratory disease that spreads quicker than the common flu. The COVID-19 pandemic disrupted the economy of various countries, with the US bearing the brunt. An increase could be seen in the total number of COVID-19 cases in the US from January 2021.
Factors such as human behavior, infection-prevention policies, unmonitored travel, and weak immunity of the population contributed to the spread of COVID-19 in the US. Moreover, mutations of the coronavirus, vulnerability of the aged, and social gatherings also offer ample opportunities for the virus to proliferate in the community. On March 12, 2021, the US government announced a fiscal stimulus package of $1.9 trillion to revive the country’s economy.
