On the other hand, the month of December 2021 was the most prolific in terms of deal volume, recording a total of 838 deals, resulting in an average deal value of $289.5 million during that month.
Of the 7,841 deals, the deal secured between Broadcom Inc and VMware Inc, was the world's largest M&A deal, which was valued at $69,000.0 million and was completed on May 26, 2022. The second-largest deal was between Microsoft Corp and Activision Blizzard Inc, while the third-largest deal was between Canadian Pacific Railway Ltd and Kansas City Southern. The Microsoft Corp-Activision Blizzard Inc deal and the Canadian Pacific Railway Ltd-Kansas City Southern deal were valued at $68,700.0 million and $31,000.0 million, respectively. The fourth-largest deal was between Oracle Corp-Cerner Corp valued at $29,600.0 million, whereas the deal between Block Inc-Afterpay Ltd valued at $29,000.0 million was the fifth-largest deal.
Cumulatively, the top five deals amounted to $227,300.0 million and accounted for nearly 9.21% of the total deals (by value) announced during the last twelve months. By region, North America accounted for 51.08% of the total M&A deals done globally, and recorded a total deal value of $1,250,730.9 million, which accounted for 27.71% of the total deal size on a global scale.
