A total of 153 Mergers & Acquisitions (M&A) deals (pending and completed) were announced in Japan, in the last twelve months resulting in a total deal value of over $24,347.4 million. In the LTM period, September 2021 turned out to be the most prolific in terms of deal size, with a total deal value of $5,716.0 million, resulting in an average deal value of $357.2 million during that month. On the other hand, the month of November 2021 was the most prolific in terms of deal volume, recording a total of 17 deals, resulting in an average deal value of $161.6 million during that month.
Of the 153 deals, the deal secured between PayPal Holdings Inc and Paidy Inc, was the largest M&A deal in the Japan, which was valued at $2,730.0 million and was completed on September 7, 2021. The second-largest deal was between 76KK and Mitsubishi Corp.-UBS Realty Inc., while the third-largest deal was between ENEOS Holdings Inc; Goldman Sachs Group and Nippo Corp. The 76KK-Mitsubishi Corp.-UBS Realty Inc. deal and the ENEOS Holdings Inc; Goldman Sachs Group-Nippo Corp deal were valued at $1,959.6 million and $1,820.0 million, respectively. The fourth-largest deal was between ENEOS Holdings Inc-Japan Renewable Energy Corp valued at $1,800.0 million, whereas the deal between Toyota Tsusho Corp-Eurus Energy Holdings Corp valued at $1,454.1 million was the fifth-largest deal.
Cumulatively, the top five deals amounted to $9,763.7 million and accounted for nearly 40.10% of the total deals (by value) announced during the last twelve months.
