A total of 68 Private Equity/Venture Financing deals (pending and completed) were announced in Malaysia, in the last twelve months resulting in a total deal value of over $2,334.5 million. In the LTM period, January 2022 turned out to be the most prolific in terms of deal size, with a total deal value of $922.9 million, resulting in an average deal value of $115.4 million during that month. On the other hand, the month of March 2022 was the most prolific in terms of deal volume, recording a total of 13 deals, resulting in an average deal value of $1.1 million during that month.
Of the 68 deals, the deal secured between CVC Capital Partners Asia Fund V and Affin Hwang Asset Management Berhad, was the largest Private Equity/Venture Financing deal in the Malaysia, which was valued at $618.9 million and was completed on January 28, 2022. The second-largest deal was between Abu Dhabi Investment Authority and EdgePoint Infrastructure, while the third-largest deal was between Hong Leong Group; TPG Capital Asia and International Medical University. The Abu Dhabi Investment Authority-EdgePoint Infrastructure deal and the Hong Leong Group; TPG Capital Asia-International Medical University deal were valued at $500.0 million and $306.1 million, respectively. The fourth-largest deal was between 65 Equity Partners; Gokongwei Group; MediaTek Inc; Qatar Investment Authority; SeaTown International; Sunway Bhd; Taiwan Mobile Co Ltd; YTL Corporation Bhd-Carsome Sdn Bhd valued at $290.0 million, whereas the deal between GIC Pte Ltd-Sunway Healthcare Holdings Sdn Bhd valued at $180.4 million was the fifth-largest deal.
Cumulatively, the top five deals amounted to $1,895.4 million and accounted for nearly 81.19% of the total deals (by value) announced during the last twelve months.
