In the LTM period, March 2022 turned out to be the most prolific in terms of deal size, with a total deal value of $6,849.9 million, resulting in an average deal value of $685.0 million during that month. On the other hand, the month of March 2022 was the most prolific in terms of deal volume, recording a total of 10 deals, resulting in an average deal value of $685.0 million during that month.
Of the 57 deals, the deal secured between MSC Mediterranean Shipping Co SA and Bollore Africa Logistics, was the largest M&A deal in the South Africa, which was valued at $6,404.1 million and was completed on March 31, 2022. The second-largest deal was between Heineken NV and Distell Group Holdings Ltd, while the third-largest deal was between Digital Realty Trust Inc and Teraco Data Environments (Pty) Ltd. The Heineken NV-Distell Group Holdings Ltd deal and the Digital Realty Trust Inc-Teraco Data Environments (Pty) Ltd deal were valued at $2,517.3 million and $1,700.0 million, respectively. The fourth-largest deal was between Northam Platinum Ltd-Royal Bafokeng Platinum Ltd valued at $1,127.1 million, whereas the deal between Ardagh Group SA-Consol Holdings Ltd valued at $1,000.0 million was the fifth-largest deal.
Cumulatively, the top five deals amounted to $12,748.4 million and accounted for nearly 76.02% of the total deals (by value) announced during the last twelve months.
