The world's population is currently increasing at a low single-digit annual rate. The population is expected to rise at a rate of 81 million people every year. Between 1959 and the 2000s, the world's population more than doubled. In the late 1960s, the annual population growth rate peaked. Since then, the rate of increase has practically halved, and it is predicted to continue to fall in the future years around the world.

The country’s overall population grew by 11.9% in 2021, reaching 9.21 million. The country witnessed significant growth in total population in 2021 when compared to the previous years among both the male and female population. The population of Israel has been constantly increasing since the 1950s. However, in the last few years, the population has been growing at a slow pace. Life expectancy at birth has risen steadily from 78 years in 2000 to 83 years in 2020. The growth rate decreased during 2011–20 to an average of 1.9%. In general, a lower birth rate than death rate leads to a decline in the overall population.

According to the Central Bureau of Statistics, about 75% of the total population were Jews in 2019 and Arabs constituted 20.9% of the total population. As per GlobalData, the total population is expected to increase at an compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 1.5% during 2020–30.

Gender: The male and female population of Israel reported a single-digit YoY growth between 2019 and 2020. The country had a large number of female population over the male population in 2020. Prior to 1978, the country had a large number of male population over the female population.  

Urban and Rural Population: Israel has a larger proportion of people living in urban areas. Age: In 2020, 26.8% of the population was below 15 years of age and the population in the working-age bracket was 61.4%. The percentage of the population above 65 years was only 11.8%, much lower than other developed OECD peers.
