Veladero Mine in San Juan, was the largest mine in Argentina, producing approximately 19.47 million metric tons per annum (mmtpa) of Run-of-Mine (ROM) and primarily produced silver (728.77 thousand ounces) in 2021. The Veladero Mine is owned by Shandong Gold Group Co Ltd;Barrick Gold Corp, and is due to operate until 2031. The second largest mine with approximately 2.93 mmtpa of ROM and primarily producing gold (61.49 thousand ounces), was the Gualcamayo Mine located in San Juan. The Gualcamayo Mine is owned by Mineros SA, and is due to operate until 2024.
Lindero Project located in Salta was the third-largest mine, the Rio Turbio Coal Mine located in Santa Cruz was the fourth-largest mine, and the Chinchillas Mine located in Jujuy was the fifth-largest mine, with an estimated ROM production of 1.99 mmtpa, 1.51 mmtpa and 1.45 mmtpa, respectively, in 2021. The Lindero Project is owned by Fortuna Silver Mines Inc which is due to operate until 2033, the Rio Turbio Coal Mine is owned by Yacimientos Carboniferos Rio Turbio and the Chinchillas Mine is owned by SSR Mining Inc which is due to operate until 2028.
