Sangatta Mine in East Kalimantan, Indonesia, was the largest coal-producing mine in the Asia-Pacific, producing approximately 51.4 million metric tons per annum (mmtpa) of Run-of-Mine (ROM) in 2021 and an estimated 49.2 million tonnes of Coal in 2021. The Sangatta Mine is owned by PT Bumi Resources Tbk. The second largest coal-producing mine with an estimated coal production of 47.1 million tonnes and 49.04 mmtpa of ROM, was the Gevra OC Mine located in East Kalimantan, Indonesia. The Gevra OC Mine is owned by Coal India Ltd, and is due to operate until 2028.
