Grasberg Block Cave Mine in Papua, Indonesia, was the largest copper-producing mine in the Asia-Pacific, producing approximately 26.36 million metric tons per annum (mmtpa) of Run-of-Mine (ROM) in 2021 and an estimated 295.5 thousand tonnes of Copper in 2021. The Grasberg Block Cave Mine is owned by PT Inalum and is due to operate until 2041. The second largest copper-producing mine with an estimated copper production of 242.7 thousand tonnes and 21.66 mmtpa of ROM, was the Deep Mill Level Zone Mine located in Papua, Indonesia. The Deep Mill Level Zone Mine is owned by PT Inalum, and is due to operate until 2041.
Oyu Tolgoi Copper-Gold Mine located in Omnogovi, Mongolia was the third-largest mine, the Sepon Mine located in Savannakhet, Lao People's Democratic Republic was the fourth-largest mine and the Letpadaung Copper Mine located in Sagaing, Myanmar was the fifth-largest mine, with an estimated copper production of 163 thousand tonnes, 151 thousand tonnes and 123 thousand tonnes, respectively, in 2021. The Oyu Tolgoi Copper-Gold Mine, the Sepon Mine and the Letpadaung Copper Mine had an estimated ROM production of 43.11 mmtpa, 7.61 mmtpa and 36.92 mmtpa respectively. The Oyu Tolgoi Copper-Gold Mine is owned by Government of Mongolia which is due to operate until 2051, the Sepon Mine is owned by Chifeng Jilong Gold Mining Co Ltd which is due to operate until 2030 and the Letpadaung Copper Mine is owned by Wanbao Mining Co., Ltd which is due to operate until 2050.
The five largest copper mines, i.e., Grasberg Block Cave Mine, Deep Mill Level Zone Mine, Oyu Tolgoi Copper-Gold Mine, Sepon Mine, and Letpadaung Copper Mine, cumulatively produced approximately 975.2 thousand tonnes of copper, 135.66 mmtpa of ROM in 2021.
