Northern Shaanxi Mine in Shaanxi, China, was the largest surface and underground coal-producing mine in the Asia-Pacific region, producing approximately 35.8 million tonnes of coal and an estimated 47.09 million metric tons per annum (mmtpa) of Run-of-Mine (ROM) in 2021. The Northern Shaanxi Mine is owned by Shaanxi Coal and Chemical Industry Group Co Ltd. The second largest surface and underground coal-producing mine with an estimated production of 7.7 million tonnes of coal and approximately 10.07 mmtpa of ROM, was the Tongchuan Mine located in Shaanxi, China. The Tongchuan Mine is owned by Shaanxi Coal and Chemical Industry Group Co Ltd.
Xieqiao Mine located in Anhui, China was the third-largest mine, the Amelia Coal Block Mine located in Madhya Pradesh, India was the fourth-largest mine, and the Yellandu Coal Mine located in Telangana, India was the fifth-largest mine, with an estimated coal production of 7 million tonnes, 6 million tonnes and 3.3 million tonnes, respectively, in 2021. The Xieqiao Mine, the Amelia Coal Block Mine and the Yellandu Coal Mine had an estimated ROM production of 10.33 mmtpa, 7.92 mmtpa and 4.36 mmtpa respectively. The Xieqiao Mine is owned by Huainan Mining Group Co Ltd which is due to operate until 2042, the Amelia Coal Block Mine is owned by THDC India Ltd which is due to operate until 2048 and the Yellandu Coal Mine is owned by Singareni Collieries Co Ltd which is due to operate until 2042.
The five largest coal mines, i.e., Northern Shaanxi Mine , Tongchuan Mine, Xieqiao Mine, Amelia Coal Block Mine, and Yellandu Coal Mine, cumulatively produced approximately 59.8 million tonnes of coal, 79.77 mmtpa of ROM in 2021.
