Paracatu Mine in Minas Gerais, was the largest gold-producing mine in Brazil, producing approximately 549.2 thousand ounces of gold and an estimated 52.5 million metric tons per annum (mmtpa) of Run-of-Mine (ROM) in 2021. The Paracatu Mine is owned by Kinross Gold Corp, and is due to operate until 2031. The second largest gold-producing mine with an estimated gold production of 380.7 thousand ounces and an estimated 46.82 mmtpa of ROM, was the Salobo Mine located in Minas Gerais. The Salobo Mine is owned by Vale SA, and is due to operate until 2053.
Cuiaba Mine located in Minas Gerais was the third-largest mine, the Jacobina Mine located in Bahia was the fourth-largest mine, and the Aurizona Mine located in Maranhao was the fifth-largest mine, with a total gold production of 193 thousand ounces, 184 thousand ounces and 135 thousand ounces, respectively, in 2021. The Cuiaba Mine, the Jacobina Mine and the Aurizona Mine had an estimated ROM production of 1.85 mmtpa, 2.65 mmtpa and 3.21 mmtpa respectively. The Cuiaba Mine is owned by AngloGold Ashanti Ltd which is due to operate until 2035, the Jacobina Mine is owned by Yamana Gold Inc which is due to operate until 2035 and the Aurizona Mine is owned by Equinox Gold Corp which is due to operate until 2026.
The five largest gold mines, i.e., Paracatu Mine, Salobo Mine, Cuiaba Mine, Jacobina Mine, and Aurizona Mine, cumulatively produced approximately 1,441.9 thousand ounces of gold, 106.99 mmtpa of ROM in 2021.
