Jaburi Manganese Property in Rondonia, was the largest underground mine in Brazil, producing approximately 2.81 million metric tons per annum (mmtpa) of Run-of-Mine (ROM) in 2021. The Jaburi Manganese Property is owned by Cancana Resources Corp;Ferrometals BV. The second largest underground mine with an estimated 2.65 mmtpa of ROM and primarily producing copper (186.21 thousand ounces), was the Jacobina Mine located in Bahia. The Jacobina Mine is owned by Yamana Gold Inc, and is due to operate until 2036.
Verdinho Mine located in Santa Catarina was the third-largest mine, the Cuiaba Mine located in Minas Gerais was the fourth-largest mine, and the Vazante Mine located in Minas Gerais was the fifth-largest mine, with an estimated ROM production of 2.64 mmtpa, 1.85 mmtpa and 1.7 mmtpa, respectively, in 2021. The Verdinho Mine is owned by Carbonifera Criciuma S.A. which is due to operate until 2027, the Cuiaba Mine is owned by AngloGold Ashanti Ltd which is due to operate until 2036 and the Vazante Mine is owned by Votorantim SA which is due to operate until 2032.
The five largest underground mines, i.e., Jaburi Manganese Property, Jacobina Mine, Verdinho Mine, Cuiaba Mine, and Vazante Mine, cumulatively produced approximately 11.65 mmtpa of ROM in 2021.
