Terrafamen Sotkamo Mine in Kainuu, was the largest mine in Finland, producing approximately 16.15 million metric tons per annum (mmtpa) of Run-of-Mine (ROM) and primarily produced zinc (53.86 thousand tonnes) in 2021. The Terrafamen Sotkamo Mine is owned by Sampo plc;Trafigura Group Pte Ltd;Finnish Minerals Group Ltd, and is due to operate until 2029. The second largest mine with approximately 9.86 mmtpa of ROM and primarily producing copper (28.73 thousand tonnes), was the Kevitsa Mine located in Lapland. The Kevitsa Mine is owned by Boliden AB, and is due to operate until 2044.
Senkkeri Quarry located in Uusimaa was the third-largest mine, the Kemi Mine located in Lapland was the fourth-largest mine, and the Pargas Mine located in Aland Islands was the fifth-largest mine, with an estimated ROM production of 2.28 mmtpa, 2.19 mmtpa and 1.74 mmtpa, respectively, in 2021. The Senkkeri Quarry is owned by Seepsula Oy, the Kemi Mine is owned by Outokumpu Oyj and the Pargas Mine is owned by Rettig Group, Ltd. which is due to operate until 2050.
The five largest mines, i.e., Terrafamen Sotkamo Mine, Kevitsa Mine, Senkkeri Quarry, Kemi Mine, and Pargas Mine, cumulatively produced approximately 32.22 mmtpa of ROM in 2021
