Ferques Quarry in Nord-Pas-de-Calais, was the largest surface mine in France, producing approximately 10.94 million metric tons per annum (mmtpa) of Run-of-Mine (ROM) in 2021. The Ferques Quarry is owned by CB Group. The second largest surface mine with an estimated 1.37 mmtpa of ROM, was the Grand-Champ Quarry located in Brittany. La Courbaisse Quarry located in Provence-Alpes-Cote d'Azur was the third-largest mine, the Trimouns Mine located in Upper Normandy was the fourth-largest mine, and the Knauf Platres Quarry located in Ile-de-France was the fifth-largest mine, with an estimated ROM production of 0.68 mmtpa, 0.49 mmtpa and 0.46 mmtpa, respectively, in 2021. The La Courbaisse Quarry is owned by Vicat SA, the Trimouns Mine is owned by Imerys SA and the Knauf Platres Quarry is owned by Knauf Gips KG.
The five largest surface mines, i.e., Ferques Quarry, Grand-Champ Quarry, La Courbaisse Quarry, Trimouns Mine, and Knauf Platres Quarry, cumulatively produced approximately 13.94 mmtpa of ROM in 2021.
