Bogatyr Komir Mine in Pavlodar, was the largest mine in Kazakhstan, producing approximately 55.95 million metric tons per annum (mmtpa) of Run-of-Mine (ROM) in 2021. The Bogatyr Komir Mine is owned by Samruk-Energy;United Company RUSAL Plc. The second largest mine with approximately 54.94 mmtpa of ROM and primarily producing copper (136.4 thousand tonnes), was the Aktogay Project located in East Kazakhstan. The Aktogay Project is owned by KAZ Minerals PLC, and is due to operate until 2045.
Bozshakol Mine located in Pavlodar was the third-largest mine, the Zhezkazgan Mine located in Karagandy was the fourth-largest mine, and the Vostochny Mine located in Pavlodar was the fifth-largest mine, with an estimated ROM production of 27.47 mmtpa, 23.51 mmtpa and 20.52 mmtpa, respectively, in 2021. The Bozshakol Mine is owned by KAZ Minerals PLC which is due to operate until 2061, the Zhezkazgan Mine is owned by Kazakhmys Holding Group B.V. which is due to operate until 2037 and the Vostochny Mine is owned by Eurasian Resources Group Sarl which is due to operate until 2047.
The five largest mines, i.e., Bogatyr Komir Mine, Aktogay Project, Bozshakol Mine, Zhezkazgan Mine, and Vostochny Mine, cumulatively produced approximately 182.4 mmtpa of ROM in 2021
