Priorskoye Mine in Aktobe, was the largest zinc-producing mine in Kazakhstan, producing approximately 58.7 thousand tonnes of zinc and an estimated 1.6 million metric tons per annum (mmtpa) of Run-of-Mine (ROM) in 2021. The Priorskoye Mine is owned by Russian Copper Co. The second largest zinc-producing mine with an estimated zinc production of 48.7 thousand tonnes and an estimated 2.8 mmtpa of ROM, was the Zhairemsky Mine located in Aktobe. The Zhairemsky Mine is owned by Glencore Plc, and is due to operate until 2032.
50 Let Oktyabrya Mine located in Aktobe was the third-largest mine, the Maleevsky Mine located in East Kazakhstan was the fourth-largest mine, and the Orlovsky Mine located in East Kazakhstan was the fifth-largest mine, with a total zinc production of 38.6 thousand tonnes, 27.5 thousand tonnes and 24.9 thousand tonnes, respectively, in 2021. The 50 Let Oktyabrya Mine, the Maleevsky Mine and the Orlovsky Mine had an estimated ROM production of 2.55 mmtpa, 1.6 mmtpa and 0.95 mmtpa respectively. The 50 Let Oktyabrya Mine is owned by Russian Copper Co, the Maleevsky Mine is owned by Glencore Plc which is due to operate until 2025 and the Orlovsky Mine is owned by KAZ Minerals PLC which is due to operate until 2026.
The five largest zinc mines, i.e., Priorskoye Mine, Zhairemsky Mine, 50 Let Oktyabrya Mine, Maleevsky Mine, and Orlovsky Mine, cumulatively produced approximately 198.4 thousand tonnes of zinc, 9.45 mmtpa of ROM in 2021.
