Kosovo: Five Largest Surface Mines in 2021

  • Sibovc Mine in Pristina, was the largest surface mine in Kosovo, producing approximately 8.08 million metric tons per annum (mmtpa) of Run-of-Mine (ROM) in 2021. The Sibovc Mine is owned by Kosovo Energy Corp, and is due to operate until 2051. The second largest surface mine with an estimated 0.9 mmtpa of ROM, was the Hani i Elezi Mine located in Ferizaj. The Hani i Elezi Mine is owned by Titan Cement International SA.

  • Grebnik Mine located in Gjilan was the third-largest mine, the Crnac Mine located in Mitrovica was the fourth-largest mine, and the Belo Brdo Mine located in Mitrovica was the fifth-largest mine, with an estimated ROM production of 0.54 mmtpa, 0.05 mmtpa and 0.04 mmtpa, respectively, in 2021. The Grebnik Mine is owned by Government Of Kosovo, the Crnac Mine is owned by Government Of Kosovo and the Belo Brdo Mine is owned by Government Of Kosovo.

  • The five largest surface mines, i.e., Sibovc Mine, Hani i Elezi Mine, Grebnik Mine, Crnac Mine, and Belo Brdo Mine, cumulatively produced approximately 9.6 mmtpa of ROM in 2021.
