Buchim Copper Mine in Southeastern, was the largest mine in Macedonia, producing approximately 3.65 million metric tons per annum (mmtpa) of Run-of-Mine (ROM) and primarily produced copper (8.04 thousand tonnes) in 2021. The Buchim Copper Mine is owned by Solway Investment Group Ltd. The second largest mine with approximately 2.8 mmtpa of ROM, was the Suvodol Mine located in Pelagonia. The Suvodol Mine is owned by Elektrani na Severna Makedonija AD.
Brod-Gneotino Mine located in Pelagonia was the third-largest mine, the Sasa Zinc & Lead Mine located in Makedonska Kamenica was the fourth-largest mine, and the Star Rudnik Mine located in Oslomej was the fifth-largest mine, with an estimated ROM production of 1.93 mmtpa, 0.82 mmtpa and 0.28 mmtpa, respectively, in 2021. The Brod-Gneotino Mine is owned by Elektrani na Severna Makedonija AD, the Sasa Zinc & Lead Mine is owned by Central Asia Metals Plc which is due to operate until 2040 and the Star Rudnik Mine is owned by Elektrani na Severna Makedonija AD.
The five largest mines, i.e., Buchim Copper Mine, Suvodol Mine, Brod-Gneotino Mine, Sasa Zinc & Lead Mine, and Star Rudnik Mine, cumulatively produced approximately 9.48 mmtpa of ROM in 2021
