Montenegro: Five Largest Mines in 2021

  • Pljevlja Project in Pljevlja, was the largest mine in Montenegro, producing approximately 2.32 million metric tons per annum (mmtpa) of Run-of-Mine (ROM) in 2021. The Pljevlja Project is owned by A2A SpA;Government of Montenegro. The second largest mine with approximately 1.03 mmtpa of ROM, was the Zagrad Mine located in Podgorica. The Zagrad Mine is owned by Uniprom Niksic LLC.

  • Suplja Stijena Mine located in Pljevlja was the third-largest mine, the Biocki Stan Mine located in Podgorica was the fourth-largest mine, and the Stitovo II Mine located in Podgorica was the fifth-largest mine, with an estimated ROM production of 0.9 mmtpa, 0.17 mmtpa and 0.09 mmtpa, respectively, in 2021. The Suplja Stijena Mine is owned by Gradir Montenegro doo;ZGH Boleslaw S.A, the Biocki Stan Mine is owned by Uniprom Niksic LLC and the Stitovo II Mine is owned by Uniprom Niksic LLC.

  • The five largest mines, i.e., Pljevlja Project, Zagrad Mine, Suplja Stijena Mine, Biocki Stan Mine, and Stitovo II Mine, cumulatively produced approximately 4.59 mmtpa of ROM in 2021
