Namibia: Five Largest Surface Mines in 2021

  • Husab Uranium Mine in Erongo, was the largest surface mine in Namibia, producing approximately 10.89 million metric tons per annum (mmtpa) of Run-of-Mine (ROM) in 2021. The Husab Uranium Mine is owned by China Africa Development Fund;China General Nuclear Power Corp;Epangelo Mining Company (Pty) Ltd., and is due to operate until 2041. The second largest surface mine with an estimated 10 mmtpa of ROM, was the Rossing Mine located in Erongo. The Rossing Mine is owned by Government of Namibia;Iran Foreign Investment Co.;Industrial Development Corporation of South Africa Ltd;China National Nuclear Corp, and is due to operate until 2035.
