La Libertad Mine in Managua, was the largest mine in Nicaragua, producing approximately 1.88 million metric tons per annum (mmtpa) of Run-of-Mine (ROM) in 2021. The La Libertad Mine is owned by Calibre Mining Corp. The second largest mine with approximately 0.72 mmtpa of ROM and primarily producing silver (373.62 thousand ounces), was the Hemco Operations located in North Caribbean Coast Autonomous Region. The Hemco Operations is owned by Mineros SA, and is due to operate until 2027.
El Limon Mine located in Leon was the third-largest mine, the San Albino-Murra Property located in Nueva Segovia was the fourth-largest mine, and the Pavon Project located in Boaco was the fifth-largest mine, with an estimated ROM production of 0.48 mmtpa, 0.07 mmtpa and 0.03 mmtpa, respectively, in 2021. The El Limon Mine is owned by Calibre Mining Corp which is due to operate until 2030, the San Albino-Murra Property is owned by Mako Mining Corp which is due to operate until 2038 and the Pavon Project is owned by Calibre Mining Corp which is due to operate until 2025.
The five largest mines, i.e., La Libertad Mine, Hemco Operations, El Limon Mine, San Albino-Murra Property, and Pavon Project, cumulatively produced approximately 3.17 mmtpa of ROM in 2021
