Carlin Mine in Nevada, United States, was the largest gold-producing mine in the North America, producing approximately 14.71 million metric tons per annum (mmtpa) of Run-of-Mine (ROM) in 2021 and an estimated 1,333 thousand ounces of Gold in 2021. The Carlin Mine is owned by Barrick Gold Corp and is due to operate until 2028. The second largest gold-producing mine with an estimated gold production of 735.3 thousand ounces and 27.2 mmtpa of ROM, was the Cortez Mine located in Nevada, United States. The Cortez Mine is owned by Barrick Gold Corp, and is due to operate until 2036.
Turquoise Ridge Mine located in Nevada, United States was the third-largest mine, the Meadowbank Complex located in Nunavut, Canada was the fourth-largest mine and the Porcupine Mine located in Ontario, Canada was the fifth-largest mine, with an estimated gold production of 545 thousand ounces, 324.8 thousand ounces and 284.6 thousand ounces, respectively, in 2021. The Turquoise Ridge Mine, the Meadowbank Complex and the Porcupine Mine had an estimated ROM production of 6.27 mmtpa, 5.53 mmtpa and 3.98 mmtpa respectively. The Turquoise Ridge Mine is owned by Barrick Gold Corp which is due to operate until 2039, the Meadowbank Complex is owned by Agnico Eagle Mines Ltd which is due to operate until 2026 and the Porcupine Mine is owned by Newmont Corp which is due to operate until 2027.
The five largest gold mines, i.e., Carlin Mine, Cortez Mine, Turquoise Ridge Mine, Meadowbank Complex , and Porcupine Mine, cumulatively produced approximately 3,222.7 thousand ounces of gold, 57.69 mmtpa of ROM in 2021.
