Rusayl Mine in Muscat, was the largest surface mine in Oman, producing approximately 2.88 million metric tons per annum (mmtpa) of Run-of-Mine (ROM) in 2021. The Rusayl Mine is owned by Public Authority for Social Insurance;Government of Oman. The second largest surface mine with an estimated 2.4 mmtpa of ROM, was the Salalah Mine located in Dhofar. The Salalah Mine is owned by Al Rawas Holding LLC.
Wadi Al Jizzy Quarry located in Al Batinah was the third-largest mine, the Buraimi Mine located in Al Buraymi was the fourth-largest mine, and the Sohar Mine located in Al Batinah was the fifth-largest mine, with an estimated ROM production of 1.05 mmtpa, 0.84 mmtpa and 0.78 mmtpa, respectively, in 2021. The Wadi Al Jizzy Quarry is owned by Northern Minerals Co LLC, the Buraimi Mine is owned by Muscat Overseas Group and the Sohar Mine is owned by Gulf Stone Company SAOG.
The five largest surface mines, i.e., Rusayl Mine, Salalah Mine, Wadi Al Jizzy Quarry, Buraimi Mine, and Sohar Mine, cumulatively produced approximately 7.94 mmtpa of ROM in 2021.
