Antamina Mine in Ancash, was the largest zinc-producing mine in Peru, producing approximately 429.9 thousand tonnes of zinc and an estimated 55.6 million metric tons per annum (mmtpa) of Run-of-Mine (ROM) in 2021. The Antamina Mine is owned by Glencore Plc, and is due to operate until 2028. The second largest zinc-producing mine with an estimated zinc production of 116.7 thousand tonnes and an estimated 6.87 mmtpa of ROM, was the Cerro Lindo Mine located in Ancash. The Cerro Lindo Mine is owned by Votorantim SA, and is due to operate until 2029.
San Cristobal Mine (Glencore plc) located in Lima was the third-largest mine, the El Porvenir Mine located in Pasco was the fourth-largest mine, and the Chungar Mining Unit located in Pasco was the fifth-largest mine, with a total zinc production of 60.4 thousand tonnes, 53 thousand tonnes and 48.9 thousand tonnes, respectively, in 2021. The San Cristobal Mine (Glencore plc), the El Porvenir Mine and the Chungar Mining Unit had an estimated ROM production of 1.2 mmtpa, 2.05 mmtpa and 1.2 mmtpa respectively. The San Cristobal Mine (Glencore plc) is owned by Glencore Plc which is due to operate until 2028, the El Porvenir Mine is owned by Votorantim SA which is due to operate until 2027 and the Chungar Mining Unit is owned by Volcan Compania Minera SAA which is due to operate until 2027.
The five largest zinc mines, i.e., Antamina Mine, Cerro Lindo Mine, San Cristobal Mine (Glencore plc), El Porvenir Mine, and Chungar Mining Unit, cumulatively produced approximately 708.9 thousand tonnes of zinc, 66.95 mmtpa of ROM in 2021.
