Carmen Copper Mine in Cebu, was the largest surface mine in Philippines, producing approximately 20.15 million metric tons per annum (mmtpa) of Run-of-Mine (ROM) and primarily produced copper (47.65 thousand tonnes) in 2021. The Carmen Copper Mine is owned by Atlas Consolidated Mining and Development Corp, and is due to operate until 2025. The second largest surface mine with an estimated 10.95 mmtpa of ROM, was the Molave Project located in Antique. The Molave Project is owned by Semirara Mining and Power Corp.
Taganito Mine located in Surigao del Norte was the third-largest mine, the Masbate Mine located in Masbate was the fourth-largest mine, and the Narra Project located in Antique was the fifth-largest mine, with an estimated ROM production of 8.32 mmtpa, 7.25 mmtpa and 7.01 mmtpa, respectively, in 2021. The Taganito Mine is owned by Pacific Metals Co Ltd;Sojitz Corp;Nickel Asia Corp which is due to operate until 2050, the Masbate Mine is owned by B2Gold Corp;Zoom Minerals Holdings Inc which is due to operate until 2025 and the Narra Project is owned by Semirara Mining and Power Corp.
The five largest surface mines, i.e., Carmen Copper Mine, Molave Project, Taganito Mine, Masbate Mine, and Narra Project, cumulatively produced approximately 53.68 mmtpa of ROM in 2021.
