Nickel production in China
China nickel reserves
According to the USGS, China had the world’s tenth-largest nickel reserves. Two types of nickel ore deposit are mainly found across the nation: magmatic segregation deposits and weathering crust deposits.
Nickel production
China’s nickel mine production fell by significant position, owing to sluggish nickel prices that led to production cuts. Earlier, production was higher driven mainly by an increase in output from operations. During the review period, the country’s production doubled, due to the consistent increase in capacities supported by rising prices. Over the period, the country’s nickel mine production is expected to remain subdued.
Consumption and Imports
China’s nickel metal consumption was up over the years owing to increased demand supported by lower prices. During the review period, the country’s nickel metal consumption increased by a significant position. This can be attributed to steep expansion in the country’s stainless steel and nickel pig iron capacities over the period. Over the period, China’s nickel metal consumption was expected to grow in 2021, driven by developments in its domestic infrastructure supported by urbanization, which will stimulate stainless steel demand. The country’s nickel ores and concentrates imports increased over the year. Of these, majority was imported from the Philippines alone. While New Caledonia, Russia, and Australia, among other countries, accounted for the remaining share.
