Kirovsky Mine in Murmansk Oblast, was the largest surface and underground mine in Russia, producing approximately 11.06 million metric tons per annum (mmtpa) of Run-of-Mine (ROM) in 2021. The Kirovsky Mine is owned by Phosagro. The second largest surface and underground mine with an estimated 9.95 mmtpa of ROM, was the Olkon Mine located in Murmansk Oblast. The Olkon Mine is owned by Severstal, and is due to operate until 2025.
Kola MMC Mine located in Murmansk Oblast was the third-largest mine, the Pioneer Gold Mine located in Amur Oblast was the fourth-largest mine, and the Urgalugol Mine located in Khabarovsk Krai was the fifth-largest mine, with an estimated ROM production of 7.16 mmtpa, 5.47 mmtpa and 4.98 mmtpa, respectively, in 2021. The Kola MMC Mine is owned by MMC Norilsk Nickel, the Pioneer Gold Mine is owned by Petropavlovsk PLC;Uzhuralzoloto which is due to operate until 2037 and the Urgalugol Mine is owned by Siberian Coal Energy Co.
The five largest surface and underground mines, i.e., Kirovsky Mine, Olkon Mine, Kola MMC Mine, Pioneer Gold Mine, and Urgalugol Mine, cumulatively produced approximately 38.62 mmtpa of ROM in 2021.
