Berezniki-4 Mine in Perm Krai, was the largest underground mine in Russia, producing approximately 17.52 million metric tons per annum (mmtpa) of Run-of-Mine (ROM) and primarily produced magnesium (3,579.4 thousand tonnes) in 2021. The Berezniki-4 Mine is owned by Uralkali, and is due to operate until 2040. The second largest underground mine with an estimated 10.35 mmtpa of ROM, was the Yalevskogo Underground Mine located in Kemerovo Oblast. The Yalevskogo Underground Mine is owned by Siberian Coal Energy Co.
Gubkin Mine located in Belgorod Oblast was the third-largest mine, the Gaisky Mine Complex located in Orenburg Oblast was the fourth-largest mine, and the Kotinskaya Mine located in Kemerovo Oblast was the fifth-largest mine, with an estimated ROM production of 9.04 mmtpa, 7.98 mmtpa and 7.07 mmtpa, respectively, in 2021. The Gubkin Mine is owned by Industrial Metallurgical Holding Management Co which is due to operate until 2037, the Gaisky Mine Complex is owned by Russian Federation;Ural Mining and Metallurgical Co and the Kotinskaya Mine is owned by Siberian Coal Energy Co.
The five largest underground mines, i.e., Berezniki-4 Mine, Yalevskogo Underground Mine, Gubkin Mine, Gaisky Mine Complex, and Kotinskaya Mine, cumulatively produced approximately 51.96 mmtpa of ROM in 2021.
