Aitik Mine in Norrbotten, was the largest mine in Sweden, producing approximately 41.77 million metric tons per annum (mmtpa) of Run-of-Mine (ROM) and primarily produced copper (79.99 thousand tonnes) in 2021. The Aitik Mine is owned by Boliden AB. The second largest mine with approximately 26.31 mmtpa of ROM, was the Kiruna Mine located in Norrbotten. The Kiruna Mine is owned by Luossavaara-Kiirunavaara AB, and is due to operate until 2036.
Malmberget Mine located in Norrbotten was the third-largest mine, the Vikan Kross Quarry located in Vastra Gotaland was the fourth-largest mine, and the Leveaniemi Project located in Norrbotten was the fifth-largest mine, with an estimated ROM production of 15.16 mmtpa, 6.1 mmtpa and 4.99 mmtpa, respectively, in 2021. The Malmberget Mine is owned by Luossavaara-Kiirunavaara AB which is due to operate until 2035, the Vikan Kross Quarry is owned by Skanska AB and the Leveaniemi Project is owned by Luossavaara-Kiirunavaara AB.
