Uzbekistan: Five Largest Surface Mines in 2021

  • Kalmakir Mine in Tashkent, was the largest surface mine in Uzbekistan, producing approximately 28.45 million metric tons per annum (mmtpa) of Run-of-Mine (ROM) and primarily produced copper (220.21 thousand tonnes) in 2021. The Kalmakir Mine is owned by Almalyk Mining-Metallurgical Complex JSC. The second largest surface mine with an estimated 14.72 mmtpa of ROM and primarily producing copper (1,929.42 thousand ounces), was the Muruntau Mine located in Navoiy Viloyati. The Muruntau Mine is owned by Navoi Mining & Metallurgy Combinat, and is due to operate until 2033.
