Kalmakir Mine in Tashkent, was the largest surface mine in Uzbekistan, producing approximately 28.45 million metric tons per annum (mmtpa) of Run-of-Mine (ROM) and primarily produced copper (220.21 thousand tonnes) in 2021. The Kalmakir Mine is owned by Almalyk Mining-Metallurgical Complex JSC. The second largest surface mine with an estimated 14.72 mmtpa of ROM and primarily producing copper (1,929.42 thousand ounces), was the Muruntau Mine located in Navoiy Viloyati. The Muruntau Mine is owned by Navoi Mining & Metallurgy Combinat, and is due to operate until 2033.
Tashkura Mine located in Navoiy Viloyati was the third-largest mine, the Angrenskiy Coal Mine located in Toshkent Viloyati was the fourth-largest mine, and the Kokpatas Mine located in Navoiy Viloyati was the fifth-largest mine, with an estimated ROM production of 13.8 mmtpa, 7.32 mmtpa and 2.57 mmtpa, respectively, in 2021. The Tashkura Mine is owned by Navoi Mining & Metallurgy Combinat, the Angrenskiy Coal Mine is owned by Uzbekcoal OJSC and the Kokpatas Mine is owned by Navoi Mining & Metallurgy Combinat.
The five largest surface mines, i.e., Kalmakir Mine, Muruntau Mine, Tashkura Mine, Angrenskiy Coal Mine, and Kokpatas Mine, cumulatively produced approximately 66.86 mmtpa of ROM in 2021.
