Vietnam: Five Largest Mines in 2021

  • Binh Minh Mine in Hung Yen, was the largest mine in Vietnam, producing approximately 4.23 million metric tons per annum (mmtpa) of Run-of-Mine (ROM) in 2021. The Binh Minh Mine is owned by Vietnam National Coal - Mineral Industries Holding Corporation Ltd. The second largest mine with approximately 3.87 mmtpa of ROM and primarily producing copper (8.34 thousand tonnes), was the Nui Phao Mine located in Thai Nguyen. The Nui Phao Mine is owned by Masan Group Corp, and is due to operate until 2035.

  • Khoai Chau II Mine located in Hung Yen was the third-largest mine, the Vang Danh Mine located in Quang Ninh was the fourth-largest mine, and the Cao Son (GD-I, GD-II) Mine located in Quang Ninh was the fifth-largest mine, with an estimated ROM production of 3.66 mmtpa, 3.15 mmtpa and 2.8 mmtpa, respectively, in 2021. The Khoai Chau II Mine is owned by Vietnam National Coal - Mineral Industries Holding Corporation Ltd, the Vang Danh Mine is owned by Vietnam National Coal - Mineral Industries Holding Corporation Ltd which is due to operate until 2039 and the Cao Son (GD-I, GD-II) Mine is owned by Vietnam National Coal - Mineral Industries Holding Corporation Ltd.

  • The five largest mines, i.e., Binh Minh Mine, Nui Phao Mine, Khoai Chau II Mine, Vang Danh Mine, and Cao Son (GD-I, GD-II) Mine, cumulatively produced approximately 17.72 mmtpa of ROM in 2021
