In the LTM period, September 2021 turned out to be the most prolific in terms of deal size, with a total deal value of $21,111.5 million, resulting in an average deal value of $703.7 million during that month. On the other hand, the month of December 2021 was the most prolific in terms of deal volume, recording a total of 43 deals, resulting in an average deal value of $184.9 million during that month.
Of the 329 deals, the deal secured between APA Group and AusNet Services Ltd, was the largest M&A deal in the Global Power & Utilities sector, which was valued at $11,080.9 million and was completed on September 20, 2021. The second-largest deal was between Cretaceous Bidco Ltd and ContourGlobal plc, while the third-largest deal was between Siemens Energy AG and Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy SA. The Cretaceous Bidco Ltd-ContourGlobal plc deal and the Siemens Energy AG-Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy SA deal were valued at $6,140.0 million and $4,263.3 million, respectively. The fourth-largest deal was between Chevron Corp-Renewable Energy Group Inc valued at $3,150.0 million, whereas the deal between Abu Dhabi National Energy Co; Abu Dhabi National Oil Co-Abu Dhabi Future Energy Co valued at $3,000.0 million was the fifth-largest deal.
Cumulatively, the top five deals amounted to $27,634.2 million and accounted for nearly 28.66% of the total deals (by value) announced during the last twelve months. By region, Europe accounted for 32.63% of the total M&A deals done globally, and recorded a total deal value of $33,295.0 million, which accounted for 24.62% of the total deal size on a global scale.
