Online sales were up by 68.9% primarily driven by the pandemic, as consumer intent to shop online continued to increase.
In Europe, the total store count in FY2021 was 5,404, this included 1,122 stores of Albert Heijn, 609 stores of Gall & Gall, 834 stores of Delhaize (including Delhaize’s store formats – Delhaize, AD Delhaize, Proxy Delhaize and Shop & Go), 527 stores of Etos, 334 stores of Albert, 522 stores of Alfa Beta Vassilopoulos, 920 stores of Mega Image, European Business Services (EBS), Super Indo and Pingo Doce. In Europe, the net sales were up by 2.8% in FY2021 driven by the increased demand related to COVID-19 and acquisitions. Online sales were up by 25.1% in FY2021 compared to last year, mainly driven by the strong performance of its online brands, bol.com and ah.nl. Other brands also saw a rapid growth in online sales, partially driven by higher demand due to COVID-19, complementing the total online sales growth.
