By the end of FY2021, Ross Stores Inc operated 1,923 stores, up from 1,859 operational stores in 2020. It slowed down the opening of new stores in FY2020 & 2021 in response to the effects and uncertainty of the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2022, it plans to resume its previous annual opening program of about 100 new stores.

Sales for FY2021 climbed by 50.9%, as compared to the previous year. This was mainly because all of the store locations were open throughout fiscal 2021. It also benefited from a combination of other factors such as government incentives, fewer COVID-19 limitations, pent-up customer demand, and the opening of 64 net new stores between FY2020-2021. During FY2021, no single store accounted for more than 1% of its total sales.
