Wesfarmers is one of Australia's largest listed companies that is headquartered in Western Australia. Its business operations are diversified into home improvement and outdoor living, apparel and general merchandise, office supplies, health, beauty, and wellbeing, chemicals, energy, and fertilizers, and industrial and safety products. Apart from being one of the largest employers in Australia, Wesfarmers has a shareholder base of approximately 515,000. Wesfarmers had around 1,687 stores by the end of FY2022 in its portfolio of businesses predominantly operating in Australia and New Zealand.
The Wesfarmers group operates through different segments and brands that include Bunnings, Kmart Group, Chemicals, Energy and Fertilisers (WesCEF), Officeworks, Industrial and Safety, Health, and others. The Group operated with an aggregate of 1,687 stores adding 675 stores in FY2022.
By the end of FY2022, the Group operated 507 Bunnings stores, 452 Kmart stores (including 128 Target stores), and 168 Officeworks stores across Australia and New Zealand. During the year, the Health division included 89 Priceline stores, 376 Priceline pharmacy franchise stores, and 95 Clear Skincare Clinics.
The Health division was formed in March 2022, with the acquisition of Australian Pharmaceutical Industries (API). It’s one of Australia’s leading health and beauty companies and is a wholesale distributor of pharmaceutical goods, that offers retail support services to pharmacies through its Priceline Pharmacy franchises and banner brands.
On 28 November 2018, Wesfarmers completed the demerger of Coles and its subsidiaries. Wesfarmers retained a 15% minority ownership in Coles and the operations in the business were discontinued.
Also, it divested its business in KTAS, Bengalla, and Quadrant Energy later in 2018. This led to a net decrease of 2,422 stores in the total store count in FY2019.
The Group revenue was up by 8.5% to $36.8billion at the end of the FY2022 YoY as a result of revenue generation through its diverse channels and operations.
