In the LTM period, December 2021 turned out to be the most prolific in terms of deal size, with a total deal value of $6,895.8 million, resulting in an average deal value of $431.0 million during that month. On the other hand, the month of June 2021 was the most prolific in terms of deal volume, recording a total of 25 deals, resulting in an average deal value of $64.5 million during that month.
Of the 137 deals, the deal secured between British Columbia Investment Management Corp; Macquarie Asset Management Holding Pty Ltd and National Grid Gas Plc, was the largest M&A deal in the Europe Retail & Wholesale sector, which was valued at $5,534.4 million and was completed on March 27, 2022. The second-largest deal was between Central Group Co Ltd; SIGNA Holding GmbH and Selfridges & Co, while the third-largest deal was between Brookfield Super-Core Infrastructure Partners LP; Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan and Scotland Gas Networks Plc. The Central Group Co Ltd; SIGNA Holding GmbH-Selfridges & Co deal and the Brookfield Super-Core Infrastructure Partners LP; Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan-Scotland Gas Networks Plc deal were valued at $5,322.0 million and $2,499.0 million, respectively. The fourth-largest deal was between D'Ieteren SA/NV-Parts Holding Europe valued at $1,928.8 million, whereas the deal between Vitol Holding BV-Vivo Energy Plc valued at $1,809.0 million was the fifth-largest deal.
Cumulatively, the top five deals amounted to $17,093.1 million and accounted for nearly 45.71% of the total deals (by value) announced during the last twelve months. The Europe region accounted for 27.63% of the total M&A deals done globally, and accounted for 3.38% of the total deal size on a global scale.
